Her long red hair was unkempt. Her deep-throated moan reverberated off the wall. Her eyes held mine. They reached into my soul, and twisted my human supremacy beliefs upside down. Why am I here? Who did this to me? Were they her questions or mine?
Her tiny baby squirmed in her arms. Our eyes remained locked. We were suspended, like lovers separated by a barbwire fence…one free…one captive.
I struggled to breathe, her clasp suffocating. I blinked and broke the spell.
The sign overhead read –Zio…female Orangutan and baby.
I walked from the Zoo free but weighted down with guilt.
